Recent Job Gains in African American Community Led By Black Women, Report Says

Black women job gains in Sept. 2012

Recent Job Gains in African American Community Led By Black Women, Report Says

Take a look at news we found about growing job gains for African Americans below:

One report says black women are 'doing it for themselves' when it comes to geting back into the workforce during our struggling job market. We can report to that black women are leading the way in the new jobs created in the black community.

Read report below:
The economy added 114,000 jobs last month, on top of an upward revision of 86,000 jobs to July and August. The private sector has added jobs for 31 consecutive months, and after coming into office in the depths of the Great Recession, President Barack Obama has created more than a million jobs over his first term. For the first time since he took office, the unemployment rate is below 8 percent, hitting 7.8 percent in September.
Meanwhile, the share of African Americans with a job edged up from 52.7 percent to 53.0 percent and the unemployment rate fell to 13.4 percent, after hovering just above 14 percent for the past three months. Among adults ages 20 and over, all of the gains for African Americans were among women. Although the share of black adult women overall employed rose from 55.1 percent to 55.3 percent, the share of black adult men employed fell from 57.7 percent to 57.5 percent. Both adult men and women, however, have seen their employment rate rise over the past year 0.5 percentage points.
Rebuild Your Resume Today with IWRITE!
Last month’s decline in the unemployment rate was driven by large reported employment gains, with 873,000 people indicating that they got a job in September. This is an exceptionally large one-month gain in reported employment, and therefore we should interpret it carefully. Higher employment is consistent with data from the establishment survey, however, and while the pace of reported employment in the household survey will likely be slower in the months to come, it is clear that employment is rising.
Both men and women reported increased employment, with 67.5 percent of adult men (ages 20 and over) reporting having a job in September — up from 67.0 percent a year ago — and 55.1 percent of adult women reporting having a job — up from 55.0 percent a year ago. Employment grew most for workers with some college or more, while falling for workers with only a high school diploma.
Though the percentages don't seem very high or appear to make a big difference, we assume the amount of people getting new jobs is a good thing. Its obvious we are still a long way from making some huge strides for both male and female job seekers. Read more HERE

How Writing Down Your Thoughts Are Important To Achieve Goals

Writing on a daily basis can be beneficial to anyone. Lets admit, we all are guilty of going days, weeks, even months without writing. I'm not just talking about writing one or two words, but expressing your thoughts, ideas, and things that you would like to accomplish on paper. Often times we tend to become too busy to write, have more important things to do than to write, or we just don't write at all. It is very important that we take at least 5-15 minutes everyday to write.

Three specific reasons why it is so important to write down your thoughts, ideas, and the things you accomplish daily:

1.) Your thoughts are like specks of small pieces of gold that are found deep in the earth. Just think about it; your thoughts are full of precious imagery and imagination, that produces into an idea. The similarity of gold and writing your thoughts down is this: the earth represents your brain, and gold represents your thoughts. So, if your thoughts are like gold, why don't you cherish it as that?

2.)Your idea set the stage for your success. Anytime your mind produces a thought, that thought eventually turns into an idea, which enfolds into a process called, "Planting a Seed."

3.) Your accomplishments become noticeable. Your accomplishments allows you to appreciate the steps taken forward, even when you may not realize that you have taken those steps. Afterwards, those steps become milestones which you can allow yourself to look back on to see how far you have come in your journey.

IWRITE Can Help Baby Boomers With 2nd Career with New Resume or Business Plan

IWRITE Can Help Baby Boomers With 2nd Career with New Resume or Business Plan

We know those who are at the retired age are not giving up on being productive in society. The truth is: they don't have to. Read the following article from US News is about how baby boomers are seeking new careers with stride:

Many baby boomers plan to keep working in some capacity after retirement. While some people will delay retirement because they need the money, others will take a job to ward off boredom and keep busy.

Previous generations of retirees may have envisioned retirement as a relaxing, stress-free escape from the demands of the working world. A more labor intensive and often physically demanding work typified earlier careers, and retirement was often necessary for a tired and worn out body.

However, the demands on today’s knowledge workers are more mental than physical. Many baby boomers, who have already begun to reach age 65, are far from physically exhausted and often have much more to give. Few of these active seniors have a physical need to retire from the working world. And many baby boomers are choosing to continue working well beyond age 65...

Instead, retirement can be a time to explore creative new avenues, and put the skills you have cultivated throughout your career to work in new ways. Your second career can be an opportunity to venture down an avenue that has interested you, but that you were unable to pursue due to circumstances. In retirement, you have the freedom to choose what you want to do rather than what you have to do.

So, there is no reason why anyone has to retire and be made to feel like life is over, because it is not. Baby boomers are free to explore career avenues they dreamed of but were not able to pursue years ago.

Now is the time to get your resume renewed and refreshed. How about getting a business plan done by our IWRITE professionals and getting on the road to operating your own business?

The time is NOW to get started and IWRITE can help you make those critical first steps to pursuing dreams you have always wanted.

Call or contact us today. We will be happy to assist you!

Resume Tips: What To Do If You Have Been Demoted

Job demotion

What To Do If You Have Been Demoted on Your Job

This is an important question to consider. Do you know how you will handle it and move forward? Take a look at the information below and get some insight.

Polish up your résumé and start looking for a new job.

Yes, in an ideal world, you should be training the new person while you are being trained for a higher-level job. That clearly isn't happening here.
There is some reason the boss wants this person in your job. Perhaps these are good reasons, perhaps not. Often we are the worst evaluators of our own performance. Everyone thinks they are above average and doing a fantastic job.

Bosses hate to give negative feedback but one day it could happen. The next time you look around, they tell you, you are demoted.

Without giving it much though at first, make sure to stay positive. This may be a sign to move into a new company with a better future. Just remember that what seems like a negative blow to your ego and livelihood might be a blessing in disguise.

So, take the advice above. Get your resume updated by professionals that will have you ready for that next promising job

What Are The Do's and Don'ts of Writing a Blog?

For all the blog writers. The 12 dos and don'ts of writing a blog.....enjoy!

Read article below:

Thinking about writing a blog? Been writing a blog for some time now and have yet to establish any growth (and by “growth” I mean “increased pageviews”)? Over the past 10 years I’ve refined my blogging skills—that’s right, I started my first blog back in 2001 and it is so embarrassing by today’s standards that I’m almost unwilling to link to it … almost. Blogs for writers are everywhere, and there’s often good advice on them about writing a blog. There’s also plenty of not-so-good advice. It can be frustrating.

Now I currently run three successful blogs: Questions & Quandaries, The Life of Dad and this online editor blog (which I’ve begun calling The Writer’s Dig). It’s been a challenge juggling them but, by sticking to these 12 specific dos and don’ts of writing a blog that I’ve developed over my years of experience, I’ve been able to establish growth (increased pageviews). I hope they can help you learn how to write a good blog too.

When Writing a Blog Do …

Find your focus.
To do this, you must first ask yourself this question: Who are your target readers? Once that’s settled, you can home in on a niche category (like this one focuses on writing) and be the expert on it.
Be relatable, be yourself.
What sets bloggers apart from newspaper article feeds is voice. Your content is what draws them in while your personality, or your voice in writing, is what will keep them there. Let your readers get to know you.

How Capitalization In Writing Is Properly Used

This article gives examples when capitalization should be used.

Writing Forward has another great resource on capitalization. Read below what they state is the proper use:

Proper capitalization is one of the cornerstones of good grammar, yet many people fling capital letters around carelessly.

Not every word deserves to be capitalized. It’s an honor that must be warranted, and in writing, capitalization is reserved only for special words.

Most of the grammar rules are explicit about which words should be capitalized. However, there are some cases (like title case) in which the rules are vague.

Capitalization of Titles

There are several contexts in which we can examine capitalization. When writing a title (of a blog post, for example), almost all of the words in the title are capitalized. This is called title case.

Writing Tips For Poetry Lovers

For those who love poetry, this article explains how you can enhance your writing skills

Writing Forward provides great tips for poetry writing.  Take a look below:

Poetry writing is the most artistic and most liberating form of creative writing. You can write in the abstract or the concrete. Images can be vague or subtle, brilliant or dull. Write in form, using patterns, or write freely, letting your conscience (or subconscious) be your guide.

You can do just about anything in a poem. That’s why poetry writing is so wild and free: there are no rules. Poets have complete liberty to build something out of nothing simply by stringing words together.
